LIFEGUARD COURSE

Program Time:

*ALL classes must be attended

  • Saturday, January 6 from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Sunday, January 7 from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Saturday, January 13 from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Sunday, January 14 from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Lifeguard Training & Certification

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.

Length:  Approximately 30 hours

Training Prerequisites

  •  Minimum age: 15 years
  • Swim 300 yards continuously
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder.

Certification Requirements

To receive Lifeguard Certification a participant must:

  • Attend 100% of all class sessions
  • Arrive on time for all class sessions
  • Participate 100% in all class sessions
  • Pass written and skills tests; with minimum grades of 80% or better
  • Demonstrate competency, maturity, respect and responsibility in all required skills and activities regardless of passing written and required final rescue skill scenarios.
  • Certification confirmation documents will be sent to participant 4-6wks post-course completion.

PARTICIPANTS MUST ATTEND ALL CLASSES. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE UPS

Prescreening will be held the first day of class.  Participants will be refunded the cost of the class if they do not pass the prerequisites. Participants should bring ID to verify age the first day of class.

Refunds will not be given after attending the first class.  Attendance does not guarantee a certification. Refunds will not be given after attending the first class.
